I love this project because of all the challenges it presented. The microclimate of the Sausalito location means harsh sun for a few weeks and damp shade in the fog belt for the rest of the year. It began as a steep hillside plagued by gophers and deer. Working with the property’s architect, we added a pathway along the back that doubles as a bocce court. A planter box along the back of the house allowed us to add greenery and soften the lines of the house while terracing created spaces for the owners’ children to play.
